Public records retrieval for law firms.
You name the agency and the records. We do the paperwork and the waiting.
You name the agency and the records. We write the request to the statute, calendar the deadline, handle the correspondence, argue the fee, and hand back an indexed file set with a written record of what was produced and what was withheld.
Record classes we have filed for:
We file for firms on either side of a matter. A records request is the same instrument whether you are building a case or answering one.
What we are not. We are a records retrieval and administrative correspondence service. We do not give legal advice, we do not interpret records for your matter, and we do not appear in anything. You stay counsel of record. We file and retrieve; you decide what it means.
Flat where the work is predictable. Contingent where it is not.
| Service | Fee |
|---|---|
| Single agency, single record class | $175 |
| Single agency, multi-item request, up to 5 items | $300 |
| Multi-agency batch, per agency, 3 agency minimum | $150 |
| Appeal of a denial or a fee estimate | $250 |
| Fee reduction work on any estimate over $1,000 | 35% of the reduction |
| Standing retainer, up to 8 requests a month | $1,200 / month |
| Work past the included follow-ups | $75 / hour |
Agency charges for search, review, copying and media are billed to you at cost with the agency invoice included. We do not mark up an agency fee.
There is no case setup fee, no per-page charge, no platform fee and no minimum.
No line item for any of the following.
Contingent. No reduction, no fee.
Agencies routinely quote a number that assumes the broadest possible reading of a request. A narrowed request, filed against the same records, often costs a fraction of the first quote. We work that reduction on contingency, so it costs nothing if the number does not move.
Worked example, from a request in progress.
An agency returns an estimate of $3,849.24 with a $1,920.00 deposit demanded before any search begins. The request is narrowed and re-filed. The revised estimate comes back at $900.00.
| Documented reduction | $2,949.24 |
| Our fee, at 35% | $1,032.23 |
| Your client keeps | $1,917.01 |
No reduction, no fee. We never bill a percentage of a number that did not move.
Every figure below is counted from our own request log.
| Requests filed since June 2026 | 36 |
| Agencies filed with, across 4 states | 17 |
| Average agency acknowledgment | 2.6 days |
| Denials and fee estimates challenged | 4 |
| Largest single production | 116,017 records |
That largest production is an automated license plate reader audit log from a Michigan police agency. The first response was a denial. The denial was answered in writing, and the records were released in full. That is the ordinary shape of this work: a first answer of no is a stage in the process, not the end of it. Of the four denials and fee estimates challenged to date, none of those requests were abandoned.
Agency names, request numbers and the underlying correspondence are available on request. We do not publish a client's matter, and we do not publish an open request.
We also keep a running fee database: what each agency charged, per request, per record class, with the invoices. It is why we can usually tell you what a request will cost before the agency does.
Four steps. You approve every dollar before it is spent.
Send the agency, the record class and the date range. We will come back with a cost and a statutory response date before anything is filed.
